## 1. Executive Summary & Objective

As Operations and Asset Custodians, the objective of the **First Physical Verification Cycle** is to execute the initial real-world physical verification process on live tagged assets and warehouse inventory following the completion of the physical tagging drive (`AST-1.12.4`).

This operational spike validates the end-to-end integration of:
1. **Phase 5 Verification & Count Flows:** Establishing baseline snapshots, field barcode/QR scanning, physical count entries, discrepancy categorisation, and session completion.
2. **Phase 6 Approval & Posting Flows:** Automating the transition from session variances to draft adjustments, gateway submission, approval resolution, atomic inventory ledger posting, and balance reconciliation.

### Core Business Rule
> **Variances → Draft Adjustments → Approved Posts**
> Physical verification sessions **never** post stock directly to the inventory ledger. Completing a verification session marks pending lines as missing and creates linked `inventory_adjustments` in `draft` status only. Posting to the inventory ledger is strictly the responsibility of the Phase 6 `AdjustmentExecutor` (`AST-1.6.4`).

---

## 2. Upstream Dependencies & Verification Pre-flight

Before initiating the live physical verification cycle, operations must verify that all prerequisite milestones are satisfied:

| Dependency | Required Milestone | Verification Status & Criteria |
|---|---|---|
| `AST-1.12.3` | Production Data Migration | Opening balances and legacy register bridged without dual-writable assets. |
| `AST-1.12.4` | Physical Tagging Drive | Physical labels and QR tokens printed, affixed, and marked `status = 'active'` in `asset_tags`. |
| `AST-1.6.4` | Inventory Adjustment Document & Executor | `AdjustmentExecutor` registered with platform `ApprovalGatewayContract` for `inventory_adjustment`. |
| `AST-1.6.8` | Approval Framework & Action Slugs | Action `inventory-adjust` seeded in `config/actions.php` and mapped to company approval settings. |
| RBAC | Operational Roles & Permissions | Auditor / Custodian granted `asset.verification-perform`, `asset.verification-review`, and `asset.inventory-adjust`. |

---

## 3. Architecture Constraints & Invariants

All operational activities and technical assets in this cycle strictly observe the ERPFlow architecture standards:

1. **No Direct Model Calls in Services / Controllers:** All operations adhere to `AI/RULES/CODING-STANDARD.md` and `AI/RULES/HUMAN-CODE-STYLE.md`.
2. **Single Assets Table Invariant:** No secondary or duplicate table named `assets` is created.
3. **Employee Assets Boundary:** No writes to legacy `employee_assets` in Phase 5/6 operational flows.
4. **Platform Approval Engine Standard:** No custom approval engine is implemented; all approval requests route through the centralized platform `ApprovalGatewayContract` and `AdjustmentExecutor`.
5. **Non-Posting Verification Invariant:** Verification sessions never post to `inventory_transactions` or alter `inventory_balances`. Stock posting occurs solely via approved `AdjustmentExecutor::post()`.
6. **Schema Authority:** Domain tables remain locked to `AST-SCHEMA-MIG`.

## 5. Detailed Step-by-Step Execution Protocol

### Step 5.1: Session Initialization & Baseline Snapshot Freeze
- **Endpoint:** `POST /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions` followed by `POST /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/start`
- **Permissions:** `asset.verification-perform`
- **Modes Supported:**
  - `serialized`: Scans serialized assets with active tags.
  - `quantity`: Counts quantity-tracked inventory at a specified store location.
  - `mixed`: Combines both serialized assets and bulk inventory within the scope.
- **Contract:**
  - The snapshot captures expected serialized assets and expected quantity balances at `started_at`.
  - Later stock receipts, issues, or transfers in the warehouse do not rewrite or corrupt the session snapshot contract.

### Step 5.2: Field Physical Audit Execution
Field auditors inspect the physical location equipped with mobile/handheld scanners:

1. **Serialized Asset Scans:**
   - **Endpoint:** `POST /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/scan`
   - **Payload:** `{"token": "<tag_token>"}`
   - **Result Classifications:**
     - `found`: Tag matches expected asset at the correct location with matching active holder.
     - `damaged`: Physical tag verified, but operator flags damaged asset condition.
     - `wrong_location`: Asset is present at the audit location but registered elsewhere.
     - `wrong_holder`: Asset is held by an employee other than the current active assignment.
     - `extra`: Tag scanned belongs to an asset not present in the initial snapshot.

2. **Quantity Stock Counts:**
   - **Endpoint:** `PATCH /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/lines/{lineId}/count`
   - **Payload:** `{"counted_qty": "8.0000"}`
   - **Contract:**
     - Operator enters physical count.
     - Variance is calculated in real time: `variance_qty = counted_qty - expected_qty`.
     - Negative variance indicates shortage; positive variance indicates surplus.

### Step 5.3: Verification Session Completion
- **Endpoint:** `POST /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/complete`
- **Permissions:** `asset.verification-perform`
- **Automated Lifecycle Actions:**
  1. Any serialized line left `pending` is finalized and marked `missing`.
  2. Eligible quantity variances (`counted_qty != expected_qty`) are collated.
  3. **Verification Non-Posting Enforcement:** Stock balances remain **100% untouched**.
  4. If variances exist, the system creates an `inventory_adjustments` header in `status = 'draft'`, linking `verification_session_id = session.id`.
  5. Corresponding `inventory_adjustment_lines` are created with `item_id`, `location_id`, `expected_qty`, `counted_qty`, and `variance_qty`.
  6. The verification session is marked `status = 'completed'`, `completed_at = now()`.

### Step 5.4: Review & Audit Reconciliation
- **Endpoints:**
  - `GET /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/review`
  - `GET /api/v1/asset/reports/verification/summary`
  - `GET /api/v1/asset/reports/verification/missing`
  - `GET /api/v1/asset/reports/verification/wrong-location`
- **Permissions:** `asset.verification-review`
- **Review Artifacts:**
  - Discrepancy lists (missing assets, extra assets, wrong location).
  - Draft quantity adjustments awaiting management/custodian authorization.

### Step 5.5: Phase 6 Adjustment Submission to Approval Gateway
- **Endpoint:** `POST /api/v1/asset/inventory/adjustments/{id}/submit`
- **Permissions:** `asset.inventory-adjust`
- **Platform Submission Data:**
  - Module: `asset`
  - Action Slug: `inventory-adjust`
  - Entity Type: `inventory_adjustment`
  - Operation: `ApprovalOperation::Custom`
- **Behavioral Branches:**
  - **Branch A — Approval Disabled (Default Company Setting):**
    - Immediate bypass executed via `ApprovalGatewayResult::immediate()`.
    - Automatically executes `AdjustmentExecutor::post()`.
    - Adjustment is immediately updated to `status = 'posted'`.
  - **Branch B — Approval Enabled (Company Workflow Attached):**
    - Adjustment status transitions to `pending_approval` with `approval_request_id`.
    - Stock ledger and balances remain locked and unchanged pending human approval.

### Step 5.6: Phase 6 Approval Execution & Ledger Posting
Posting is executed strictly via `AdjustmentExecutor` under database row-locks:

1. **Posting Logic (`AdjustmentExecutor::post`):**
   - Adjustment header locked for update (`lockForUpdate`).
   - Lines sorted deterministically by `(item_id, location_id)`.
   - Each line calls `InventoryLedgerServiceInterface::postTransaction()`:
     - `type`: `ADJUSTMENT`
     - `quantity`: `$line->variance_qty`
     - `reference_type`: `inventory_adjustment`
     - `reference_id`: `$adjustment->id`
     - `idempotency_key`: `adjustment:{$adjustment->id}:line:{$line->id}`
   - `inventory_transactions` row written with `balance_after`.
   - `inventory_balances` projection updated atomically.
   - `inventory_adjustments` updated to `status = 'posted'`, `posted_at = now()`.

2. **Rejection Logic (`AdjustmentExecutor::reject`):**
   - Approver rejects request with mandatory reason.
   - Adjustment updated to `status = 'rejected'`.
   - **Zero ledger rows created; inventory balances remain completely unchanged.**

## 6. Live Execution Verification Evidence

The end-to-end execution of this cycle has been validated by automated integration and feature testing in `backend/Modules/Asset/tests/Feature/FirstPhysicalVerificationCycleTest.php`:

| Test Case | Flow Executed | Verified Invariant |
|---|---|---|
| `test_full_cycle_serialized_and_quantity_variances_to_approved_post` | Mixed session → Scanned 1 asset → Missing 1 asset → Count variance (-2) → Complete → Submit Adjustment → Posted | Verification completion left balances unchanged. Adjustment posting decremented balance to 8 and wrote ledger `ADJUSTMENT`. |
| `test_cycle_with_approval_enabled_routes_to_pending_and_posts_on_approval` | Session completed → Draft adjustment submitted with approval enabled → Approver approves | Status held in `pending_approval` with 0 balance change. Approval triggered executor, posting ledger and updating balance. |
| `test_cycle_rejection_leaves_stock_balances_untouched` | Session completed → Draft adjustment submitted → Approver rejects | Adjustment marked `rejected`. Ledger transactions and balance projections remained completely unchanged. |
| `test_cycle_tenant_isolation_and_idor_protection` | Company B attempts to complete or submit Company A session/adjustment | Denied with 404 / IDOR isolation. Cross-tenant pollution impossible. |
| `test_idempotency_guards_against_double_posting` | Re-submitting completed session or posted adjustment | No duplicate adjustment or ledger entries created. |

## 7. WBS 1.13 Anti-Scope Boundary Checklist

In strict accordance with project rules, the First Physical Verification Cycle does **not** include or implement any out-of-scope V1 roadmap items:

- [x] **No Parent/Child Component Management:** Assets are verified as complete units; no component replacements or hierarchy trees.
- [x] **No Employee Self-Service Requisition / Handover Loans:** Verifications track custody; no self-service loan or checkout workflows.
- [x] **No Gate Pass System:** No gate pass issuance or perimeter control logic.
- [x] **No Meter-Based Maintenance:** No odometer/hour logging during verification.
- [x] **No Lost/Stolen Case Investigations:** Unfound assets transition to `missing` / `LOST` status; formal case file investigations are deferred out of V1.
- [x] **No Automated Purchase Suggestions / Reorder Triggers:** Stock adjustments reconcile variance without generating PRs/POs.
- [x] **No Automated External Notifications:** No automated emails, SMS, or external alerts triggered during count cycles.
- [x] **No Finance Journals in Asset Module:** Asset adjustments produce inventory transactions only; financial journalization consumes `asset_finance_events` asynchronously.
- [x] **No Second `assets` Table:** Single unified `assets` table maintained.

---

## 8. Rollback & Contingency Plan

If an operational anomaly occurs during the verification cycle:
1. **Uncompleted Session:** Call `POST /api/v1/asset/verification-sessions/{id}/cancel`. All captured scans and counts are cancelled without stock impact.
2. **Completed Session with Erroneous Draft Adjustment:** An auditor may cancel the draft adjustment via `POST /api/v1/asset/inventory/adjustments/{id}/cancel`. Since verification does not post stock, the inventory ledger remains clean.
3. **Pending Approval:** Approvers may reject the adjustment, keeping inventory transactions and balances intact.
4. **Already Posted Adjustment:** Corrective manual adjustments (`inventory_adjustments`) must be created and approved following standard operational governance. Ledger transaction history is immutable.
